In Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, Milly Alcock, who starred as Rhaenyra Targaryen in HBO’s Game of Thrones spinoff series House of the Dragon, will play Kara Zor-El, the cousin of Superman.
Superman: Legacy writer and director James Gunn of DC Studios Co-CEO verified the report on Instagram.
“Milly is a fantastically talented young actor, and I’m incredibly excited about her being a part of the DCU,” Gunn posted on Instagram.
“Yes, I first became aware of her in House of the Dragon but I was blown away by her varied auditions and screen tests for #Supergirl,” Gun went on. “She embodies Kara as envisioned by @tomking_tk, @bilquis and Ana Nogueira.”
Superman is portrayed by David Corenswet in Superman: Legacy. Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Edi Hoult as Lex Luthor, Edi Gathegi as Green Lantern, Edi Gathegi as Hawkgirl, María Gabriela de Faría as The Engineer, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, and Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher.
Warner Bros. is still looking for a director for Woman of Tomorrow, which is being written by Ana Nogueira. The same-titled comic book series by Tom King and Bilquis Evely served as inspiration for the future film.
“Just when Supergirl thinks she’s had enough, everything changes. An alien girl seeks her out for a vicious mission. Her world has been destroyed, and the bad guys responsible are still out there. She wants revenge, and if Supergirl doesn’t help her, she’ll do it herself, whatever the cost.” The official summary for King and Evely’s series states, “Now a Kryptonian, a dog, and an angry, heartbroken child head out into space on a journey that will shake them to their very core,” reads the official synopsis for King and Evely’s series.”
“In a January 2023 presentation, Gunn discussed the differences between Superman and Supergirl. He stated that “we will see the difference between Superman, who was sent to Earth and raised by loving parents from the time he was an infant, versus Supergirl, who was raised on a rock, a chip off of Krypton, and who watched everyone around her die and be killed in terrible ways for the first 14 years of her life and then come to Earth,” according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Kara was portrayed by Helen Slater in the 1984 Supergirl movie. From 2015 to 2021, Melissa Benoist played the role in six seasons of the CW series. More recently, Sasha Calle appeared in The Flash last year as a Supergirl.
