Today, Microsoft is releasing the Xbox TV app for a few Amazon Fire TV Sticks. The Xbox Cloud Gaming software, which Microsoft initially revealed last month, enables Xbox Game Pass Ultimate customers to stream a selection of Xbox games to select Fire TV devices.
The Xbox app, which is the same as the one that is now accessible on Samsung’s latest TVs and monitors, will initially only be available on the Fire TV 4K Max (2023) and Fire TV Stick 4K (2023). To stream Xbox games, you only need a compatible Fire TV Stick, a wireless controller that supports Bluetooth, and an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate membership.
Microsoft is working on making it possible to stream every Xbox game—not just those included in Game Pass—through Xbox Cloud Gaming. It should be available in the upcoming months, though it’s possible that some games won’t be included as their publishers won’t allow Xbox Cloud Gaming.
Although it has been far later than expected, Microsoft had previously stated that Xbox Cloud Gaming would support your current game library by the end of 2022. Additionally, Microsoft halted plans to release a premium version of Xbox Cloud Gaming and abandoned plans to release a specialized Xbox cloud gaming console because of financial concerns.
For the first time, an Xbox app has been released on a device other than Samsung TVs and monitors—on Amazon’s Fire TV Sticks. Rather than creating cloud gaming gear, Microsoft has been focusing more on expanding the availability of its Xbox TV app on new platforms. Additionally, Microsoft and Meta collaborated to release an Xbox Cloud Gaming app for Quest VR devices.
