Facebook and Spotify will collaborate on new music features that will permit individuals to listen to music while they utilize the Facebook application. Imprint Zuckerberg discussed the coordinated effort during an interview on Discord with Casey Newton, who composes the Platformer newsletter.
The team-up will bring about another in-app audio player that permits Facebook clients to stream music from Spotify without leaving the application, as indicated by TechCrunch. Inside, facebook refers to this as “Project Boombox,” CNBC announced. The news comes in the midst of a major drive into audio by Facebook, which on Monday reported a few new audio features, including the ability to browse and stream podcasts from within the Facebook application.
Recode recently detailed the podcast would be powered by Spotify. A source near the streaming organization discloses to Engadget that the new audio player will support both music and podcasts and that there will be options accessible to paid subscribers, as well as free clients. The new player could launch sooner than Facebook’s other audio features, which are still months away.
“Our ambition has always been to make Spotify ubiquitous across platforms and devices — bringing music and podcasts to more people — and our new integration with Facebook is another step in these efforts,” a Spotify spokesperson said in a statement.
The two organizations have cooperated previously, most notably with Spotify’s integration into Stories on Facebook and Instagram.
