At The Game Awards 2022 on Thursday, Elden Ring and Dark Souls developer FromSoftware announced the reboot of their mech series Armored Core. Armored Core 6: Fires of the Rubicon was revealed in the first trailer. It will be available via Steam for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and Windows PC in 2023.
FromSoftware was best known for creating the third-person mech/shooter series Armored Core before it became famous with Dark Souls, which started a genre, and Elden Ring, which was hugely successful. In the past, the series had multiple releases per year; Since 2013, no Armored Core game has been released by FromSoftware. Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 experienced Verdict Day.
A member of the ResetEra forum leaked the information about a possible Armored Core sequel in January, long before today’s announcement. As part of a consumer survey, the user claimed to have seen images and an early gameplay video of an unannounced sequel. The story and locations of Armored Core were revealed in great detail in the leak.
Hidetaka Miyazaki, president of FromSoftware, said in an interview with IGN in 2017 that the company was working on a new Armored Core game in addition to two other titles. Since then, we hadn’t heard much about the project.
