LeBron James’ 19-year-old son said on his Instagram account on Friday that he intends to use the transfer portal in order to keep his academic eligibility.
James commented, “I’ve had a year with some ups and downs but all added to growth for me as a man, student and athlete,”
Just hours before USC was scheduled to announce Eric Musselman as their new coach, James made his choice public. He takes over for Andy Enfield, who departed on Monday to take a coaching position at SMU.
This week, the elder James declared, “Bronny is his own man.” “He has some tough decisions to make. When he’s ready to make those decisions, he’ll let us all know. But as his family, we’re going to support whatever he does.”
James started six of the Trojans’ twenty-five games, averaging 4.8 points and 2.8 rebounds. He made 37% of his field goals, 27% of his 3-pointers, and 68% of his free throws from the line.
This season, the older James, his spouse, and their 9-year-old daughter were regular courtside attendees at the Galen Center.
James, 39, has made no secret of his desire to play in the NBA with his son.
Rich Paul, the CEO of Klutch Sports and a father-son representative, has declared that “value a young player getting into the lottery as much as I do getting him on the right team in the right developmental situation.”
The 6-foot-4 combo guard James didn’t play collegiately until December 10. James later gave a brief media appearance to express his gratitude to the medical staff, athletic trainers, and network of supporters that enabled him to resume his career.
James refused to speak with journalists during the season, even when they repeatedly asked.
On July 20, he went into cardiac arrest while working out at the Galen Center. It was discovered that he had a curable congenital cardiac problem.
