The Pixel Watch is finally getting some much-needed polish. After a rocky March 2025 update that introduced Wear OS 5.1 and a slew of bugs — including delayed notifications and Fitbit syncing issues — Google has started rolling out the April 2025 update to address those problems.
Although the build number change is minor (from BP1A.250305.019.W3 to BP1A.250305.019.W7), this update is expected to squash several frustrating bugs. Users had reported that the March update slowed down notifications and disrupted Fitbit app syncing, leading to a sub-par smartwatch experience. While Google hasn’t officially published a changelog, early feedback suggests improved performance and stability.
Unfortunately, the April update doesn’t include a new security patch, leaving the watch on the March 2025 security level. Still, the bug fixes alone may be worth the update for many users.
To update your Pixel Watch, head over to Settings > System > System updates, and tap the “Your watch is up to date” screen several times to manually trigger the download.
Scam Detection Arrives on Pixel Watch
In addition to bug fixes, Google has rolled out Scam Detection on the Pixel Watch — a smart safety feature powered by AI that was first introduced on Pixel phones in the March 2025 Feature Drop. This feature listens for suspicious patterns during calls and alerts users with a vibration, beep, and on-screen message if a potential scam is detected.
However, there are a few caveats:
- Scam Detection only works on Pixel Watch 2 and Pixel Watch 3
- It is currently limited to the US
- You must be paired with a Pixel 9
- It only functions over Bluetooth, not LTE
While the heavy lifting is done by the paired Pixel phone, having this warning show up on your wrist could be a game-changer in preventing scam calls.
With this update, Google is not only addressing performance hiccups but also doubling down on user safety — making the Pixel Watch a smarter and safer companion for everyday use.
