Concerns encompassing the resurgence of Covid cases provoked the Radio City Rockettes to cancel each of its shows on Friday.
The Rockettes declared that four planned performances of “The Christmas Spectacular” won’t continue due to a “breakthrough COVID-19 cases in the production.”
“We apologize for the inconvenience, and will make announcements about future shows as soon as possible,” the Rockettes said in a statement Friday.
The current year’s holiday season is transforming into a redux of limitations and retractions in the midst of one more spike in infections.
The four performances were scheduled to begin at 11 a.m., 2 p.m., 5 p.m. and 8 p.m.
Visitors will be refunded their tickets, as per the Rockettes.
The new surge in cases has effectively constrained New York Gov. Kathy Hochul to command masks in all indoor public spots except if the organizations or venues implement a vaccine requirement.
Hochul said the decision to reinstitute a mask mandate depended on a rising number of cases and hospitalizations, which has been particularly articulated in parts of upstate New York.
The current year’s show started on November 5 and was set to run until January 2, 2022.
The “Christmas Spectacular” is a holiday staple in New York City. Known for their notable kick line, the Rockettes have brought Christmas cheer to New Yorkers and tourists from everywhere the world since the 1930s. Coronavirus constrained the Rockettes to cancel 2020’s “Christmas Spectacular” for the first time in the show’s history.
