Mercedes-Benz and Starbucks have partnered to offer electric vehicle (EV) charging in their establishments.
In a news release, Starbucks stated that the partnership with Mercedes-Benz High-Power Charging, which was announced on Wednesday, July 17, will install chargers at more than 100 Starbucks locations nationwide, beginning along Interstate 5, “a critical west coast travel corridor.”
According to the firms, further places, including those along the East Coast, would be determined once the chargers are installed in “core urban areas and charging deserts.”
The press release states that Starbucks on the I-5 route will be carrying the Alpitronic Hypercharger 400, which is compatible with a wide range of vehicle voltages and comes with NACS cables.
“The collaboration between two leading brands like Mercedes-Benz and Starbucks will uplift the charging experience for all EV drivers,” stated Andrew Cornelia, president and CEO of Mercedes-Benz High-Power Charging. “We envision a future where charging your vehicle is as easy as enjoying your favorite Starbucks.”
As stated in the press release, one of the objectives of the collaboration is to allow drivers of various manufacturers of electric vehicles to enjoy charging experiences that are “the familiar and easy routine of grabbing a coffee.”
The collaboration takes place at a time when merchants are working harder to draw in EV drivers.
With plans to construct over 900 ultra-fast charging bays starting in early 2026, Simon Property Group, the largest mall owner and developer in the United States, is partnering with BP Pulse to roll out ultra-fast EV charging stations at 75 of its shopping centers.
Because they usually reside in wealthier neighborhoods, EV owners provide shops and service providers with a lucrative market. The presence of ultra-fast charging facilities may play a significant role in influencing where these high-end shoppers make their purchases as EV adoption rises.
